The Tech-Wise Family
May 20, 2018
5:30pm – 7:00pm
Barna Research Group recently released some interesting statistics dealing with technology within the home.
Here are a few questions they asked average American families:
“Why do you think parenting today is more difficult?” #1 answer: Technology.
“What is it that makes technology so challenging as a parent?” #1 answer: Finding balance.
“What are the most difficult things about family life and raising children?” Top answers were: Discipline, time management and technology.
“In what way has technology made your life genuinely easier?” Only 9% said that it has made them a better parent and only 13% say it has brought more joy.
And here’s one statistic that really shocked me:
“An astonishing 62% of teenagers say they have received a nude image on their phone and 40% say they have sent one.”
Now that I have your attention…
I think more conversations need to happen concerning technology within our homes. As you can tell from the stats above (and that’s only the tip of the iceberg), there are many reasons we need to be more aware of how technology is shaping the family dynamic. Here’s the bottom line: In a technologically advanced world that’s moving full steam ahead, maybe we can learn how to create better environments.
I’m really excited that we’re going to have a one-night Ridge Rally on May 20th. We want to invite you personally AND our Journey Groups for an evening to discuss technology within the family. Mrs. Jami and I are going to share what we learned from a book titled The Tech-Wise Family. We’re going to teach on the 10 Commandments (from author Andy Crouch). These are practical steps for putting technology in its proper place.
This applies to all families. Whether you’re raising little ones, have a few in high school or simply wanting to create a great environment for your kids and their families when they come to visit, this seminar will be perfect for you!
We’ll meet on May 20th from 5:30-7pm at Striplin Terrace UMC. We’d love to have your Journey Group reserve a table. Or, if you’re not in a Journey Group but you’re interested in learning more on how to be a Tech-Wise Family, we’d love to have you also!!
This is going to be a great event!
Childcare and dessert provided.
